So, I’ve been doing keto for a little more than a month now. I’m almost 20 pounds down, and pretty happy with it. My blood glucose remains under control, and I’ve got another blood panel scheduled for the 3-month mark.
I’m interested to see what the blood work shows. There have been a few posts on reddit where people see higher levels of triglycerides after being on keto for a while. I know that it’s fairly normal (citation needed) for triglycerides to be elevated during weight loss, so I’m prepared for a non-optimum result. I was just really hoping for this batch of tests to be my trump card for the family and friends who are skeptical about weight loss by bacon. I still have the diabetes victory on my side.
My weight loss is constant but bursty. If I stall for a few days, it seems like I can kick it into gear by going nuts on my water consumption. I wind up peeing all day, but a day or two later I’ll be down a pound a two, and back on my way down.
I’m still staying around 2000 calories per day. Bulletproof coffee for breakfast, a snack on the way home, and a hefty dinner. If I get hungry, I have a jar of bouillon cubes at work. A mug full of broth and a bottle of water, and I’m not hungry any more. I probably do this 2-3 times a week.
Last weekend, we went to visit some friends in Boston, and I indulged a little bit. I had a beer and a plate of pierogies and kielbasa. So far as I can tell, there were no ill effects weight wise. I went up about a pound the day we got back, but I’ve come down 5 pounds since. No digestive issues either, which I was concerned about with a 6 hour drive home.
Speaking of digestive issues, my lower GI seems to be adjusting better to the diet. I’m not running for the bathroom when I get to work anymore, and the frequency of bathroom sprints is down to almost nil overall.
